These records were cut on an Epilog 120 Watt Legend EXT to a theoretical precision of 1200dpi (the kerf of the cut and some tricks I used to avoid crashing the laser cutter dropped the actual precision down by ~1/6). The audio on the records has a bit depth between 4-5 (typical mp3 audio is 16 bit) and a sampling rate up to about 4.5kHz (mp3 is 44.1kHz). So far I’ve successfully cut audio on wood (figs 1-2), acrylic (figs 3-4), and paper (figs 5-6), and I’m sure there are many more materials that would work. I wrote the Processing sketch that generates the record cutting paths so that it can be modified for any song, material, cutting machine, record size, and turntable speed (skip ahead to download the code and learn how to make your own records).

Spricht man von Poker hat man sofort die passenden Bilder im Kopf. Das Verqualmte Hinterzimmer einer schäbigen Pinte, noch schäbigere Typen die ihr ganzes Hab und Gut verzocken… Oder aber auch mal gerne mit Betonschuhen Bade gehen… Müssen. Auf der anderen Seite ist da das glamouröse Leben der High Roller die sich in internationalen Pokertunieren die Asse um die Ohren hauen und sich Goldene Nasen verdienen.

Viele Filme wie z.B. Oceans Eleven, oder auch Rain Man leben geradezu durch das Zockerambiente, für das Las Vegas exemplarisch steht. Das neue Bild des Poker, raus aus den Spelunken hinein in die Luxuscasinos. Poker ist Schick, Trendy und cool. Poker ist auch überall. Sei es Stefan Raab mit seinem dreihundertsten Format… Diesmal… Oh Wunder… Promi Poker oder auch im Web wo Anbieter wie das richtige Zocker-Feeling vom heimischen PC aus ermöglichen.

Warum aber gerade Poker in den letzten Jahren so einen Boom erlebt hat, lässt sich nur vermuten. Mittlerweile breitet sich das Kartenspiel auch im Netz aus, und Anbietern wie z.B. partypoker DE zeigen wie man es richtig macht. Nun der Coolness Faktor spielt bei den meist männlichen Zockern vermutlich eine zentrale Rolle. Und im Zuge der Oceans Eleven Filme kam vermutlich so mancher erst auf den Geschmack…

Neosignal ist ja eher als Drum&Bass Label der Artists Phace & Misanthrop bekannt, nun starten die beiden aber zusätzlich ein Live-Projekt unter diesem Namen. Mit “Planet Online” geht die erste Single des bald erscheinenden Albums an den Start und was die Jungs da abliefern hat nur im entferntesten mit Neurofunk zu tun. Das Video wirkt zunächst vielleicht ein bisschen low-budget es entwickelt sich aber… wait for it!
